What is SUP Yoga?
SUP Yoga AKA Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga is a form of yoga that is practiced usually in group settings on top of a body of water. Each participant needs a paddleboard which is sometimes is provided by the instructor, rented, or brought from home. Additionally, you may also use a small anchor to keep your board from floating away from the group.
SUP yoga is known for incorporating the fundamentals of a yoga practice with elements of balance, nature, and mindfulness. It's a great way to connect with your community while also reaping the benefits of the nature around you.
How to become a SUP Yoga Instructor?
We would recommend starting your yoga journey with a more general 200HR yoga teacher training. It important to know the fundamentals of yoga before jumping on a paddleboard. Once you have a deep understanding teaching yoga on dry land, is when you can begin your journey to SUP yoga. There are SUP YTTs and certifications specific to this yoga style. Although it's not required to purchase our insurance, we do recommend getting your CPR certification as well to increase your credibility and knowledge.

Frequently Asked Questions
General liability is often called “slip and fall” insurance because a student simply walking into a studio slipping and falling can result in a general liability claim being filed because it could be claimed the facility didn’t take proper steps to provide a safe, accessible environment.
Professional liability occurs during the course of your instruction or as a result thereof. If you were helping a student with their posture and pushed a little too hard and they were injured, a claim under professional liability could ensue. In either case, beYogi has you covered through the entirety of your student teacher training with a comprehensive insurance package.
Occurrence form coverage means if a claim is filed against you after your policy is no longer effective you’re covered as long as the incident in question occurred while your policy was still in effect. Learn with our deep-dive into occurrence based coverage.
In addition to covering you for general and professional liability beYogi provides over $1,500 in additional member benefits for yoga teachers.
The most popular benefits are within our Healthcare Insurance marketplace where you can get access to health insurance, vision & dental insurance, pet insurance and more.
We also offer exclusive discounts on popular yoga gear, continuing education, software. and more. We’re continually adding additional discount programs so be sure to check-in for the latest offers.
This is the maximum amount of money insurance will pay during the 12-month policy period of beYogi’s student insurance plan. Under beYogi’s student insurance plan, you have $2 million of coverage for each claim filed and up to a $3 million annual maximum, or aggregate, for all claims occurring in that year.
For as low as $60/YR, you can get covered for your yoga services. We offer student, part-time, and full-time rates letting you decide which policy makes the most sense for you. Our most popular policy is our standard 1 year full time rate for just $179/YR.
It depends but in most cases, no, your school or studio’s insurance would not cover you if a claim was brought against you. The school or studio may even face liability of their own. That’s why it's imperative individual teachers protect their own yoga career.
During your training, you’ll be learning proper alignment and modifications of a wide variety of different poses and modalities. Most certifications require hands-on experience to demonstrate proficiency. If a student you were working with happened to be injured while you were helping them, a claim against you could result. Because this occurred while you were providing a professional service, the claim would fall under professional liability. When you have yoga teacher insurance, you are covered for these types of claims all the way up to $2 million per claim.
The beauty of our policy is that the coverage is with you no matter where you’re teaching. From formal in-person classes to laid-back pool deck vinyasas, you’ll have peace of mind and spirit knowing beYogi yoga insurance has you covered.
