Yoga Liability Insurance Highlights

A comprehensive insurance policy designed specifically to protect yoga teachers. With one flat rate and great member benefits, beYogi has been safeguarding yoga teachers from the unexpected since 2005.

Professional & General Yoga Liability Limits

1 Additional Insured: $10 | Unlimited Additional Insureds: $30

General and professional liability coverage are some of the most essential coverages for any yoga insurance policy. A liability is a risk that a client may encounter while under your instruction or in your facility. General liability and professional liability coverage are both necessary for every yoga professional.

The coverage limit for both professional and general liability is $2 million per occurrence with an annual aggregate (maximum) of $3 million. This coverage is designed to protect you thoroughly from a single liability claim or multiple claims within a year.

  • General liability:
General liability coverage protects you from non-specific harm or injuries while on your property or under your teaching. These injuries are not directly resulting from your profession as a yoga instructor. A few common claims related to general liability may be falls, slips, trips, damaged personal property, or other injuries from a facility issue.

General liability coverage could help cover the cost of a lawsuit from bodily injury or damaged personal property. If a client trips and falls on a loose rug in your lobby, general liability insurance could help compensate them for their injuries and medical expenses.

General liability coverage is necessary for any business, not just yoga teachers. Because slips, falls, and general injuries can happen anywhere, general liability protection is an important investment for any professional. Most other insurance providers have general liability coverage included in their yoga teacher insurance policy; however, not all general coverage is the same. You will want to ensure that your policy has a generous coverage limit that will be sufficient to protect you from a general liability claim.

  • Professional liability:
Professional liability coverage helps protect you against the cost of injuries from errors and omissions. These injuries are correlated to your work as a yoga professional. In medical terms, these claims are known as malpractice because they imply that the professional caused harm or injury to their client.

For yogis, a professional liability claim may be a client overexerting themselves in a class, tearing a ligament while attempting a new pose, or aggravating a pre-existing medical condition due to your instruction. Unfortunately, these types of claims are becoming more common among health and wellness professionals.

Professional liability coverage helps cover the cost of a lawsuit when a client claims negligence or incompetence. While most insurance providers include this coverage in a yoga insurance policy, our generous limits stand out.

These coverages protect yoga teachers from liability for non-physical injuries or damages resulting from actions like defamation, false arrest, invasion of privacy, and copyright/trademark infringement in advertising and marketing.

Identity theft is a modern threat that professionals from all industries are dealing with these days. As the online world further becomes integral for businesses, the need for online protection has become evident. As a business professional, you likely have a website, use social media to promote your services, and may use a suite of online business tools. While this online presence can be an excellent opportunity to showcase your talents, engage with your students, and manage your business, it can also leave you vulnerable to online attacks.

The larger your online presence, the more exposed your information is to online thieves. By promoting your services online, identity thieves can gain access to your information and use it to steal funds, make purchases under your name, and impersonate you online. In short, an identity thief could wreak havoc on your finances or your reputation with just small pieces of information about you.

With the potential of identity theft being greater than ever, protecting yourself from identity theft is becoming a priority for many yoga professionals. That’s why we include up to $25,000 of coverage for identity theft. This coverage is designed to help you recoup financial losses due to an online impersonator.

The notion of including identity theft protection in a yoga instructor insurance policy is relatively new. Not many other insurance providers have the foresight to include this coverage, but beYogi is different. We promise to be at the cutting edge of yoga insurance and provide the coverage you actually need for today and whatever tomorrow may bring. We’ve brought yoga insurance into the modern era by including identity theft protection as a standard part of your policy. You can always count on us to offer practical coverage that is entirely centered on your needs.

Why Do You Need Yoga Teacher Insurance?

According to the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS), the number of yoga-related injuries treated in emergency rooms nearly doubled from 2010 to 2014—and that’s just emergency rooms!

Also, in 2019 the National Institute of Health published a study that showed one in five adult yoga users reported at least one acute adverse effect in their yoga practice, and one in ten reported at least one chronic adverse effect, mainly musculoskeletal effects.

While yoga teachers make every effort to teach their students about body awareness, accidents can still happen. It is imperative that your yoga liability insurance provides the two most important kinds of coverage: professional and general liability.

Professional liability insurance, sometimes known as “malpractice” insurance, covers you against claims of negligence or incompetence.

yoga injuries

In comparison, general liability insurance is sometimes referred to as “trip and fall” insurance. This protects you in the event, for example, that one of your students trips over a yoga mat on the floor and suffers an injury from falling to the floor.

Having your own individual policy or personal liability insurance is always a good idea. Many yoga studios require some form of liability insurance for their instructors. Although many states may not legally require liability insurance, it can save you more.

While not every yoga studio requires liability insurance, being unprotected could be a risk many yoga instructors are unwilling to take. Consider the cost of a liability lawsuit. How do I find the best yoga insurance for me?

Insurance can vary greatly from provider to provider. It is important to take the time to do some research and determine what might be the best fit for you. The last thing you need or want as a yoga teacher is an expensive liability insurance policy. Follow these steps to help make the determination:
  1. Compare the plan prices
  2. Check to see if the modalities you practice are covered

How much coverage should I have for my yoga liability insurance?

The recommended professional and general liability coverage is $2 million per occurrence with a $3 million annual aggregate. Of course, you'll likely want an insurance company that goes above and beyond with additional coverages. Not all policies are created equal and it's recommended to do your research into the company's occurrence form policy as well. While your basic coverage may include professional general liability protection, high-quality insurance companies will provide extra coverages within their policy.

As a yoga teacher, what kind of insurance do I need?

As a professional yoga instructor, it's crucial to have coverage that matches both your work area and the specific modalities you teach. While most policies offer general and professional liability protection, other coverage types might also be relevant. For instance, advertising liability and personal injury liability protection can enhance your insurance, safeguarding you against a broader range of risks.

Carefully evaluate your career needs and select the liability coverages that align with your specific requirements. Make sure your policy fully addresses the unique aspects of your practice. Read on for more information on why liability insurance is important.

What is the difference between general & professional liability?

Professional liability coverage helps protect against occupation-specific risks, like a professional error or a negligent omission. These situations can occur when the yoga instructor does something wrong or is accused of doing something that results in harm or damage to another individual.

General liability coverage is designed for generic risky situations, like a slip or fall. These circumstances are not tied to a specific profession but could occur in any occupation. General liability claims can arise when there is perceived negligence, creating a hazardous situation or environment that causes harm or damage to another individual.

When is yoga insurance for teachers necessary?

For many yoga instructors within studios, yoga insurance is a prerequisite to employment. However, yoga insurance can be needed even as a student learning to become a professional yoga instructor. Yoga insurance is designed to protect yoga teachers from the financial responsibility of a liability lawsuit, which could occur during a yoga instructor's education or career. Many programs offer discounted rates for students. Then you know you’ll be covered during your training time as well as when you get out on your own. Read on to find out why yoga teachers need liability insurance now more than ever.

Am I covered if I teach at various locations?

One of the benefits of a beYogi policy is its portability. In other words, you're not tied to a specific location to teach yoga. We offer coverage in all 50 states and ensure the yoga instructor, not just the place they teach yoga. This means you're free to take your classes on the road, to the park, or to a friend's house. Your coverage follows you wherever you go and wherever you teach yoga within the United States.

Should I get liability insurance if I am a student in yoga teacher training?

Even students could be held responsible for liability lawsuits if they are accused of harm or damage. When you're still learning your craft as a professional yoga instructor, you could make a mistake that leads to an injury or an accident. So, it's pivotal to maintain the safety net of yoga instructor insurance as a student.

Fortunately, we offer a discounted student rate to our up-and-coming yogis. Students can enjoy the same coverage and peace of mind as our professional policyholders while enjoying that student discount as well.

What is yoga teacher insurance, exactly?

Yoga teacher insurance is a specialized form of liability insurance specifically for yoga teachers and professionals. As a liability protection, yoga teacher insurance provides coverage for various risky situations that could be associated with professionally teaching yoga. Although specific yoga instructor insurance policies can vary in particular coverage, a few of the critical components for a yoga liability policy are professional and general liability coverage.

Why Should I Carry Yoga Insurance?

Despite the experience and careful yoga teaching habits, risky situations cannot always be predicted. Yoga insurance can help protect yoga teachers in unexpected situations, like an injury during a class, damaged property, or an accusation of non-physical harm. While these situations may be rare within a Yogi's career, the possibility still remains.

If a yoga instructor is caught off guard without coverage, they could be held financially responsible for a liability lawsuit or claim against them. A yoga instructor might be held accountable for medical expenses, legal fees, or even time away from work. On the other hand, with coverage, a yoga instructor could have a buffer between them and the financial burden of a liability lawsuit.

What does yoga insurance protect me from?

In addition to the financial protection that comes with a yoga teacher insurance policy, there are several other benefits to being a policyholder. For example, having insurance can boost your credibility by demonstrating to clients that you are a professional who prioritizes safety and responsibility. This confidence allows you to focus on teaching without worrying about unforeseen issues.

Additionally, members may enjoy a series of benefits from their policy. A beYogi member has numerous member benefits at their fingertips, including exclusive discounts, services, and resources. These perks of the policy make our coverage all the more beneficial for our members.

Benefits of Having Yoga Teacher Insurance

What is occurrence-based coverage, and why is it important?

Occurence-based coverage is the preferred coverage option because it protects policyholders even after the policy expires. With occurrence-based coverage, you're protected for incidents that occur during the policy period. Even if you file a claim after the policy expires, you'll still be covered for incidents that happened while the policy was active..

Claims can be delayed for various reasons, such as a client not realizing the full extent of their injury, paperwork issues, or other factors. As a result, a claim might be filed after your policy has expired. For this reason, occurrence-based protection can be a lifesaver for yoga professionals because they don't have to stress about a claim being filed on time for incidences that occur while the policy is in place.

How does a yoga insurance claim work?

A yoga insurance claim can be a relatively simple process. After an incident in which a student or third party is harmed, they could file a lawsuit against you. If this happens, the policyholder will simply contact the yoga insurance company and inform them of the claim. The insurance provider will then determine the claim's validity and what portion of coverage may be available. Your insurance agent can walk you through the details once a claim occurs.

What does it mean to be BBB accredited?

Accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) means a company has met the standard requirements for reliable business practices. The BBB is a nonprofit organization that reassures consumers about a company, ensuring it is dependable and safe to do business with.

The Better Business Bureau also provides rating systems for consumers to evaluate which company may best fit their needs based on other consumers' experiences.

Additionally, members may enjoy a series of benefits from their policy. A beYogi member has numerous member benefits at their fingertips, including exclusive discounts, services, and resources. These perks of the policy make our coverage all the more beneficial for our members.
