Healing Properties of Baltic Amber for Yogis

Healing properties of Baltic Amber: When it comes to taking care of ourselves, we can all agree that the more natural the method is, the better it is for our overall health and well-being. Our body is designed to try to heal itself naturally.

One of many naturally occurring substances that have been used to heal human ailments for centuries is healing Baltic Amber.

Healing Baltic Amber for adults

When most people in the US hear “Baltic Amber,” the first thing that comes to mind is baby amber necklaces. More and more mothers seek help in amber necklaces to relieve their child’s teething pain.

However, healing Baltic Amber necklaces, pendants and bracelets have the ability to provide pain and inflammation relief, as well as aid with congestion and respiratory issues for babies, toddlers, kids and adults! Amber bracelets are incredibly effective for rheumatism, arthritis, as well as aching muscles and joints. Amber can help take away those annoying headaches, prevent asthma attacks, increase the delivery of oxygen to the body and minimize a range of diseases and disorders such as for the thyroid and joint conditions.

Healing Baltic Amber has been verified scientifically as an adaptogen. This is an important starting off place because in order to meet the criteria defined by the word “adaptogen”, a substance must be non-toxic, produce a nonspecific response in the body, which boosts its ability to resist multiple stressors and exert a normalizing influence on physiology. By definition, adaptogens strengthen the immune, nervous and glandular systems, increase metabolic efficiency and reduce susceptibility to illness and disease.

Baltic amber (succinum) is classified as warming, stimulating, magnetic, aromatic and neutral in nature.

So what gives Amber the healing properties?

Succinic acid – Baltic amber contains one of the highest concentrations of this unique substance: 3-8%, being one of the most important natural sources of succinic acid in the world!

Succinic acid is a powerful antioxidant shown to reduce inflammation and pain, stimulate neural system recovery, eliminate free radicals and modulate the immune system. It is also used to discourage disruptions of the cardiac rhythm and to ease stress. Succinic acid helps restore strength and energy to the entire body, enhances brain function and so helps to improve awareness, concentration and reflexes.

What is Amber?

Baltic Amber is not a rock. It’s a tree sap that is 30-45 million years old! Each and every bead holds that much history.

Amber comes in variety of colors and textures: from the most common transparent orange, to light honey yellow, almost white (butter shade), to cherry and cognac. Some pieces are pure and transparent, some have incredible inclusions, dents and marks. Each piece of amber is truly unique.

You can still find some on the beaches on the coast of Baltic Sea. I grew up in Poland. My hometown, Sopot, is a beautiful beach town, spa resort, visited by many European tourists. Gdansk, city just few miles away from it, is known for its amber jewelry boutiques and stands right in the old town.

Both of my grandmothers wore amber bracelets for their arthritis and made tinctures (off of tiny amber pieces found on the beach or even amber powder) to treat respiratory issues of any family member. Many of my friends are in the amber jewelry making business, so I used to bring some as gifts each time I visited Poland and go back to Florida. It became so popular, I started a little store: You can check the selection here.

So next time you see your yoga student or another teacher wearing Baltic Amber necklace or bracelet you know exactly what it is and how it works! You might even get one for yourself too.
