I started teaching yoga about five years ago and instantly fell in love.
I loved the way I felt during my classes, after my classes, and most importantly I loved how amazing my body felt. The more I practiced yoga the more everything made more sense.
It wasn’t long until yoga became one of the most important aspects of my life. The only not so great part about yoga—my yoga mat!
Many of my clients will ask me a variety of questions on any given day, but one question that comes up most often is—“How do I clean my yoga mat?”
Well, that I had yet to answer. The basic tea tree oil, soap, and water method wasn’t keeping my yoga mats as clean as I wanted them to be. And because I’m bringing yoga mats from one client to another, I needed something more substantial.
When you stop and think about how many times a week you use your yoga mat, the sweat and toxins that build up over time, and how often you unroll your mat on a studio floor, the more you will cringe.
There are a wide range of bacteria, viruses, and fungi that can easily multiply over time, causing numerous health issues. If you are someone who rents a yoga mat at a studio, think about what type of yoga mat spray the studio is cleaning the mats with. Chances are, it’s not something you want to be anywhere near!
Call me a clean freak, but when you stop and think about how dirty your yoga mat can become, the more properly you’ll want to clean it.
A new way to clean
I was determined to find an answer to this question that my clients were always asking. I wanted to create an easy, inexpensive, cleaning solution, not only for my clients, but also for myself and yoga studios.
That’s when I set out to meet with some of the top chemists in California to create a yoga mat spray that people could enjoy using. It took about two years and a lot of hard work, but I finally did it!
