Yoga Insurance Coverage

Despite a yoga instructor's best efforts to teach safe yoga practices, injuries do happen. And they can be financially devastating without the backing of a solid insurance plan. beYogi has you covered with professional and student yoga insurance coverage.

A YTT student can buy a student policy on the last day of their training before they are certified, and that policy is good for the next 364 days even if they are teaching full time. This saves students over $120.

To be eligible for our student rate, you must be enrolled initial certification (usually 200-hour) on the effective date of coverage. Our student policy will only cover you for the disciplines and methods that is in your course work.

As a yoga teacher, what kind of insurance do I need?

The two most important types of insurance to carry as a yoga instructor are general liability (slip and fall) coverage and professional liability (malpractice). These will cover you in case of an unfortunate event where one of your students is injured. Whether that be an injury from tripping over something and falling or a claim of negligence by one of your students.

Look for a yoga liability insurance provider, like beYogi, that covers both professional and general liability under one policy. You’ll also enjoy additional coverages like those mentioned above. With our policies, you are also not limited to the number of modalities covered by your policy.

What is the difference between general & professional liability?

As a yoga teacher, it is very important to have both general liability insurance and professional liability insurance coverage. Make sure when you are looking for coverage policies that you opt for one that provides both of these. General liability insurance, often referred to as “slip and fall” insurance, covers you against any third-party claims for injury or property damage. If for instance, there is sweat or water on the floor of the studio you are teaching at and a student slips and injures themselves you are covered.

Professional liability insurance is a little different and sometimes referred to as “malpractice insurance”. This coverage will protect you against any third-party claims that your posture correction or instruction led to an injury. For example, if a student did not fully understand your explanations of a pose and because of that, they injured themselves.

Both of these scenarios are possible in your day to day yoga practice so you want to make sure you are fully covered by your yoga insurance for both types of liability.

What is yoga teacher insurance, exactly?

In order to understand what yoga insurance is, we’ll need to explore the various protection mechanisms and benefits built into an effective policy. Yoga insurance can be broken down into two main coverage areas: yoga liability insurance and additional coverage areas.

Yoga Liability Insurance

A liability is something that you are legally responsible for paying. Just by opening up for business and offering classes to yoga students exposes a professional to several forms of liability. If a student gets injured under your watch, the courts may decide in a suit that you’re responsible for covering all their costs.

The three main types of liability facing yoga instructors includes general liability, professional liability, and product liability. With coverage in place specifically for claims relating to these three types of liability, our yoga insurance plan is setting up protection for the majority of liability yoga instructors face.

Additional protection for yoga professionals includes:

  • Identity Protection Plan: today’s yoga professionals have to rely more on the internet than ever before to stay connected to their community. With so many different ways for a cyber incident to occur, our plan provides real-world protection with $25,000 worth of identity restoration services should a policyholder’s identity be compromised.

Why Should I Carry Yoga Insurance?

The most important part of that question is, “I”. Why should I carry insurance? For anyone who’s serious about a career as a yoga teacher, insurance is a given. Some may think since they work in a studio that has coverage, they should be good if an unfortunate event occurs. The fact is, even if you do have some coverage through your yoga studio, it's often a very small amount—leaving the professional alone responsible for covering any shortfalls on a given claim.

Carrying too-little or no insurance at all carries a great deal of personal risk for a yoga teacher. Insurance means you’re transferring the risk of having to pay for a claim yourself, back onto your insurance company. Therefore the best long-term success risk avoidance strategy in the yoga industry is to secure individual yoga insurance.

With the affordable plan offered by beYogi, professionals don’t have to decide between great coverage and affordable rates. Our yoga instructor insurance was purposefully built to provide stout protection for the real types of risks yoga teachers face today, and to do so at a competitive rate.
