About

I am an E-RYT 200, RYT 500, and a yoga educator (YACEP). I specialize in educating yoga teachers on plus-size inclusivity. I’ve been teaching yoga since 2010, the majority of that as a straight-sized yoga teacher. A few years ago, I sustained an injury that led to me gaining 100 pounds, very quickly. I quickly realized that transferring my years of practice, and teaching, to my newly plus-size body, could have been more intuitive. Why do these poses no longer work for me? This baffled me, as my athletic ability, and flexibility had not changed. I sought help to relearn how to do yoga in this new body. I attended beginner classes, expecting to learn how to use props and find variations for my body. Unfortunately, no one was teaching this, and mostly, I was ignored. I felt ashamed, embarrassed, and humiliated. I had to wonder if yoga was even possible for bigger people, did I need to give up my practice? I decided to figure it out on my own. It was trial and error, tears, trauma work, frustration, and a lot of practice. It is from this extensive experience that I created techniques and methods that are both trauma-sensitive and highly effective. Making the yoga community accessible to larger-bodied yogis is my life’s work.
